moving pictures.

There is a whole process to making collages that tells its own kind of story - where you decide to place an image, a color, or a texture and how you move all the pieces until they come together like a disjointed jigsaw puzzle. Recently I wanted to see the movement of the story as opposed to the completed still, so I taught myself a very basic animation program. I feel somewhat vulnerable sharing these because they are so amateur! But in a way, that’s precisely why I love them. I haven’t been “new” at art in a long time, so these delight me.

Squaring the Circle

Squaring the circle is a geometric problem worked on by Anaxagoras when he was in prison. It is known as the “impossible possibility.” Spiritually and philosophically it symbolizes bringing together two things that don’t usually exist together.

Houses are now Gardens

I made this animation in response to a teenager’s poem. Parts of it are form an old collage I made for a dear friend’s wedding invitation.

Hand picking up a pink ball and tossing it toward a shell where a small person bats it away.

Play Ball!

I played with this collage for a while. Actually, it remains unfinished because I don’t know where to put the little ball or where to stop the hand! this might be one I like better in motion! can you spot all the moving parts?
